RED (Real Emergency Directions) Book – Next Step – Tab Markers

They help you organize to think clearly
So, now you’ve got your RED book and you know it stands for Real Emergency Directons and you know WHY you need a book instead of relying on memory. Hopefully you’ve started with ‘Step 1′ and ‘Step 2′ and now see the need to organize it. It’s time to keep moving forward with more sections that will IN the book. This will require organization. The easier it is to find items in an emergency situation, the better. That’s one less thing on your mind! So let’s get some ideas flowing….

Not all of these tab markers will be EXACT to what you may need, please don’t think of this as an all inclusive list. These are just some ideas that you may want to include or will spark your own necessity of what you feel is important. Some tab ideas are:

Contacts ~ where you put a sheet per person from Step 1.
Routes ~ from Step 2, more than one option and pockets for maps.
Vitals ~ This will be a list of vital information per family member (sheets coming) blood type, etc.
Grabs ~ not nearly as important as people, but a list of items that can be used and are needed in an emergency.
Documents ~ unlike vitals these are not ABOUT people but FOR people. Birth certificates, records, policies etc.

We will get more into detail about what is behind each tab marker in your RED book in the future…for now, go purchase a set of dividers with tabs that will fit into your RED book and start thinking of what you want to label them. Think of what is likely to slip your mind in an emergency. Then make some tabs according to what you feel you would need help locating, listing and thinking about in a tense situation.
