It’s no secret that in today’s world, we have a lot of uncertainty surrounding us. Whether it’s economic instability, natural disasters, or even terrorism, we are all living in a very unpredictable world. This is why it is so important to prepare for anything that may happen. The most important thing to remember is that if you’re not prepared, you will be at a disadvantage when disaster strikes. I got an email the other day from a loving and well meaning friend who was sharing how to buy storage food cheaply over time. It was a wonderful gesture and right in line with the need to prepare. It’s like I invaded Fort Knox each time I wanted to cook!   My opinion is to first focus on the minimum 1 year useful pantry. It’s the one you will get into on a regular basis now and learn to build meals from….so that ‘in case’ of emergency you are also skilled in […]

I will say, however, many of the convenience items really are less convenient when eating for health and long term storage. Grains and Beans are the two biggest staples that will provide nutrition and long term sustainability for a preparedness pantry.  Build your long term pantry around these items and you can cut the odd items down to a minimum. Rice, wheat, spelt, millet, and oats are great for storage.  All forms of beans provide  […]
